Originating in ancient Egypt, the Palmette is a hybrid of a palm tree and a flower. The Palmette is thought to have been created after mass-flooding in Egypt. After months of chaos, the waters calmed, and the land became fertile once again. Depictions of this new fertility included the Palmette. The Palmette became a symbol of fertile life after death. As years went on, this symbol appeared on the crowns of kings and on burial walls. Holding its significant meaning for both life and death.
Struggling with an eating disorder can feel like living two lives. In many ways, recovery is the calm water after chaos. It is the fertility after the flood. It is the fruitful life you live after the passing of your eating disorder self.
I hope the Palmette charm reminds you of the recover(ed) life you are worthy of living.
